Floral Designer and Instructor Kathy Freeman - Hastings is the master of finding inspriation, and marvelous props in garage sales, good-will stores and garbage cans. She created this perfect retro Atomic Ranch styled design titled Pretty in Pink.

"Having been in the floral design biz for many years, pink is a color that to me is tired and overused. However, when I spotted this incredible retro wall vase at an estate sale, it called out to me and had me smiling. I had to incorporate it somehow, and maybe find a fresh way to use pink. What better way than with a whimsical sputnik-style pair of companion pieces?"

After all, sometimes art just has to do with bringing some humor into our lives.

Kathy Freeman-Hastings is an instructor at Floral Design Institute where she teaches Basic and Advanced Floral Design. She has a BA in drawing and has worked as a designer at Portland Flower Co., City Flowers and Richard Calhoun Old Town Florist. Kathy won the floral design contest at the Floral Design Institute’s Creative Center’s grand opening.
